Cribbage in five lines Board and pegs. You keep score by leapfrogging two pegs along a track on the board; the first to 121 wins. Deal and crib. Each player gets six cards and throws two face down into the crib, a bonus hand for the dealer. A card cut from the deck is turned up as the starter; if it's a jack, the dealer scores 2. The play, to 31. Players take turns laying cards face up and calling the running total, never going past 31. Making 15 or 31 scores 2, a pair 2 (three of a kind 6), a run 1 a card, and the last card ("go") 1. Then the count starts again. The show. Each hand is counted together with the starter: the non-dealer first, then the dealer's hand, then the crib. Fifteens score 2 each (face cards are 10, ace 1), pairs 2, runs 1 a card, a flush 4 (5 if the starter matches; the crib needs all five), and nobs, the jack of the starter's suit, 1. To 121. The deal alternates, and the non-dealer counts first, which often decides a close game. Versus bridge: mostly two players, with no partners, no bidding, no trumps and no tricks. You score card combinations as you go and keep the score on the board. Try it on the flyer's fan of cards, A♣ 5♦ J♣ Q♥ K♠: the 5 with each face card makes three fifteens (6), and J‑Q‑K is a run (3), for 9. Add 1 for nobs if the A♣ is the starter. The drill under How to play opens on this hand. Learn it before you go At the session: it starts with an introduction on how to play.
