The short answer: what Claude artifacts can't do
- Reach readers without a Claude account. Everyone needs one, apart from legacy chat-published artifacts and public links from Claude Code.
- Let another AI keep editing. Claude makes them and Claude changes them. ChatGPT, Codex and Gemini can't.
- Share by link on Team or Enterprise until an Owner turns on External sharing.
- Share by link an artifact that uses your apps or Claude. That isn't allowed.
- Hold much data. An artifact stores up to 20 MB of text.
What they do well: any plan can make one in chat, and exports cover Word, PDF, Markdown, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Google Slides and standalone HTML.

Move a Claude artifact out in three steps
- Connect your AI to spacesheep, once. The card above has the button and the one prompt to paste.
- Ask Claude to publish the artifact with spacesheep, in the same chat. It gives you a link.
- Pick who opens it: named people, your team, or anyone. From then on any AI you connect can change the same space, and every version is kept.
Claude artifact not working? Fixes first, then a way out
- No artifact appears. Turn on "Cloud code execution and file creation": Settings, Capabilities on Free, Pro and Max, or Organization settings, Capabilities on Team and Enterprise.
- An error inside the artifact. Choose "Try fixing with Claude" near the error. Claude's help page says it may not succeed.
- Saved data doesn't work. For a legacy artifact, storage only works after you publish it.
- In Claude Code, no link or "Artifacts need a claude.ai login". Sign in with /login to a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise account; API keys and cloud-provider credentials can't publish. A proxy or VPN blocking api.anthropic.com can also switch artifacts off.
- Images or scripts missing. Pages can't load outside images, so Claude embeds them, and scripts load only from five public hosts.
A space published with spacesheep doesn't rely on Claude's artifact settings, plan or login to open.
What a better artifact needs
- A link of its own, not a place inside one app.
- Readers without your AI's account.
- Any AI can keep editing it, not only the one that made it.
- Every version kept, with the AI that made each one.
- Comments on the exact line, so feedback reaches the right spot.
Asked often
What are Claude artifacts?
Standalone things Claude makes that you would show someone else: documents, decks, designs, dashboards, single-page websites, diagrams or small interactive tools. They open beside the conversation, are saved in the Artifacts tab, and start private to you.
What is the difference between a chat reply and an artifact in Claude?
Claude's help page says it makes an artifact when the content is significant, self-contained, typically over 15 lines, and likely to be reused outside the chat. Shorter or conversational replies stay in the chat.
Is there a free alternative to Claude artifacts?
Claude makes artifacts on every plan, but each one stays inside Claude. spacesheep has a free plan: publish what Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex or Gemini CLI makes at its own link, share it privately with named people, and let any of them keep editing it.
Why is my Claude artifact not working?
Check that Cloud code execution and file creation is on in Settings, Capabilities. For an error inside the artifact, choose Try fixing with Claude, which may not succeed. In Claude Code, publishing needs a session signed in to a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise claude.ai account, not an API key.
Can I share a Claude artifact with someone who doesn't use Claude?
Usually not: Claude's help page says everyone needs a Claude account, except legacy artifacts published from a chat, and Claude Code can publish a public link. On spacesheep, an open space needs no account at all.
Can ChatGPT or Codex edit a Claude artifact?
Not in Claude. Published with spacesheep, the same space can be changed by Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, Cursor or Codex at the same link, with every version kept.
