The short answer, by what you made
| What you made | Who can open it | Viewer needs |
|---|---|---|
| An artifact in a Claude chat | Anyone signed in with the link; people you invite by email (beta, Pro and up, 50 outside your organization); your organization on Team and Enterprise | A Claude account |
| A Claude Design prototype | Designs start private; Share picks who opens it and whether they can view, comment or edit | Not stated on the Design pages; artifacts need a Claude account |
| A live artifact (Cowork, before 19 Aug 2026) | Your organization only; no external or public links | To be in your organization, with their own access to the data |
| A connected artifact or dashboard | Your organization only; it can't use "Anyone with the link" | Their own connected apps |
Two exceptions open without a Claude account: an older artifact published from a chat on Free, Pro or Max, and a public link made from Claude Code.
Share a Claude artifact, step by step
- Open the artifact and choose Share.
- Pick who can open it: only people you invite, everyone in your organization (Team and Enterprise), or anyone signed in to Claude who has the link.
- Pick what they can do: Can view, Commenter, or Can edit.
- Invite by email or copy the link. An invitee needs a Claude account under the address you invited, and an invite expires after 30 days if nobody accepts it.
Share a Claude Design prototype
Claude Design makes designs, interactive prototypes and one-pagers, on every plan from Free to Enterprise. A design starts private to you; Share sets who can open it and whether they can view, comment or edit. Editing together is, in Claude's words, still basic.
To hand a design to someone outside Claude, export it: a .zip, PDF, PPTX, standalone HTML, Google Slides or Canva, or send it to Claude Code to build.
Live artifacts and dashboards stay inside your organization
A live artifact is one made in Claude Cowork before 19 August 2026. It keeps working, but sharing stays within your organization: there are no external or public links. Each viewer sees the data through their own access, so someone without it sees an error instead of your numbers.
Newer connected artifacts and dashboards work the same way: shared only inside your organization, and each person connects their own apps. Cowork sessions themselves can't be shared, only the artifacts made in them.
What Claude's sharing doesn't cover
- Readers without a Claude account, apart from older published chat artifacts and Claude Code's public links.
- Outside invitees in the conversation: they can't mention people or ask Claude in a comment, and get no comment emails.
- A password, a custom domain, or who viewed it: not in Claude's help pages.
- Another AI picking it up: only Claude can change a Claude artifact.
